Bat Patrols

Mondays - 19 July to 23 August 2010

Every Monday as the sun disappears and the shadows lengthen in Cheddar Gorge, bats of many different species emerge from the caves, scanning the night air for moths and insects.

Cheddar Caves are home to many of Britain's endangered bats and Jon Hill, our Conservation Officer, invites you to join him on his Bat Patrol to discover how these remarkable little animals manage to survive.

Meet him outside Gough's Cave on Monday nights from 19 July to 23 August (we start, depending on sunset, at 7.30pm, 8.00pm or 8.30pm) for an illustrated one hour introductory talk followed by an hour and a half Bat Patrol using ultra-sonic bat detectors (supplied) to "find" them.  Refreshments, bat books, etc., on sale. Free parking available. Booking is essential, since numbers are limited to 20 on each patrol - 01934 742343. Wear warm, weatherproof clothing and walking shoes.

Cost to be confirmed.
